“The Mother of God in the Bible”

Friday 23rd to 25th January 2013
Hosted by:
The Romanian Orthodox Parish of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Alban the Martyr.
Stockingstone Road, Round Green, Luton LU2 7NB

Dr. Mary Cunningham started off the weekend with a presentation entitled: The All-Holy Virgin Mary’s life in texts and images: The Biblical basis for her role as the ‘Living Temple of God’

On Saturday Morning Hieromonk Melchisedec from the Monastery of St John the Baptist in Essex gave a talk on the theme ” St Silouan the Athonite on the Mother of God”.

This was followed by small break away groups and study sessions on Biblical texts related to the Mother of God led by Father Ioan Nazarcu, the parish priest of our host parish.

We then paid a visit to the shrine of Saint Alban the Martyr in the nearby Anglican Cathedral of Saint Albans, where we sung the supplicatory canon to the Martyr,

In the evening Dr. Mary Cunningham concluded the second part of her presentation on the Mother of God.

The study part of the weekend weekend was rounded off with a roundtable discussion and of course,  this was followed by a wonderful meal provided by the parishioners.

Metropolitan Kallistos draws some conclusions from the weekend

On Sunday we joined the hospitable parishioners for the Divine Liturgy, where Metropolitan Kallistos presided.

Thank you to the warm-hearted people and clergy of Luton for giving us such a wonderful experience.
